SKCS READING FESTIVAL WEEK DAY 6
Description: Culmination of St. Karen’s Reading Festival: A Celebration of Literacy and Creativity "Don’t cry because its over. Smile beacuse it happened.” Dr Seuss. The culmination of our 6-days reading festival marked a triumphant celebration of the magic of reading, it threw light of the creativity, imagination, the power of literature especially on the young minds of St. Karen's Collegiate School. On this final day, we immersed ourselves in a variety of engaging activities: The character parade done by the tiny tots bringing their favourite charaters alive. The author talk continued for the culmination where more students shared about their favourite authors. The Book Fairy - A book exchange activity which fostered a spirit of sharing and exploration through a book exchange among teachers, students, and staff. It was wonderful to see the excitement among all, this exchange not only encouraged a sense of community but also sparked lively discussions about favorite genres, authors, and literary discoveries. The exchange was a testament to the power of books to connect us and broaden our perspectives. Moreover a thought-provoking performance by our council members, who presented a compelling adaptation of Shakespeare's "Seven Ages of Man", added to the day. Their expressive portrayal took us on a journey through the stages of life, from infancy to old age, promoting reflection on the universal themes of growth, change, and the passage of time. Adding to the day's excitement a Book Review Competition with a Twist for Std. 10. Students delved into the wonders of literature, unravelling famous characters and their insightful voices. Each group had four members: Protagonist, Antagonist, Reader, and Writer, who helped the audience to climb into someone’s skin and walk around in it. The Antagonist and Protagonist recreated scenes from the novels, aiding the audience in diving deeper into the themes of the book. The presentation also included review by the presenter and the writer’s inspiration to write the novel adding a little touch of magic to the scene enactment. To give our Reading Festival a grand ending we a Book Launch session took place highlighting the festival's theme of embracing the written word. Through the inputs of Education World, St. Karen's Collegiate School was invited to participate in the prestigious BriBooks Online Summer Writing Festival. A total of 97 enthusiastic students eagerly participated, each participant contributed with their own original stories to this vibrant event. These stories ranged from imaginative fantasies to heartfelt narratives, reflecting the diverse creativity and passion of our young karenites. Under the mentorship and guidance provided by BriBooks, 35 exceptional entries were selected for publication. These young authors not only saw their stories come to life in print but also received their own self-published books, medals and certificates of achievement. This recognition not only celebrates their literary accomplishments but also inspires them to continue exploring their talents and aspirations in writing. We are immensely proud of our Young Karenite Authors and cheer them with hearty congratulations on this remarkable achievement. We look forward to nurturing more literary talents in the future! Overall, the final day of St. Karen’s Reading Festival was a fitting end to a week of celebrating the written word. The students were given certificates to award the students who won in various competitions throughout the week, such the Book Bingo and many more. It truly was a magical week showcasing our students' literary talents and fostering a love for reading within our community but most importantly was an experience of taking a walk within a book.
